Reasons To Have A Backyard Wedding

Wedding planning can be stressful and expensive.....so it's no surprise that some couples look for more relaxed alternatives to booking a big venue.

As well as cost there can be quite a few more reasons why a backyard wedding might be for you!

Not many restrictions on the date

Traditional wedding venues can easily be booked-up a year or two ahead of your wedding date. Having it in your own backyard or that of a friend/family member generally means you get to choose whichever day you want!

It can be as casual or elegant as you choose

A backyard wedding suggests a more laid back affair...shorts and sandals might not be out of place. But if you still want suits and floor-length gowns, generally anything goes.

Friends and family can get more involved

People like helping out...and a backyard wedding is a great opportunity for your most creative friends to show their support...whether to decorate or even officiate!

.

No venue rules and regulations

Want real candles on the tables? Want to include all the pets?

Having to abide by a list of venue rules can often limit your choices, whether for decor, catering or even entertainment, and the venue often has their own vendors that you're forced to use.

When your wedding is hosted in a backyard you might rent a few tables and chairs, pop your own champagne, or have it catered by your favorite restaurant....a lot more freedom for your decision-making.

When Kendra and Carl recently decided to tie-the-knot, elopement-style, before their bigger, traditional wedding later in the year, their friends, husband and wife Lou and Rose-Marie, offered to host it in their backyard, close by on the same Savannah street.

The beautiful space seemed tailor-made for Southern entertaining, with a ceremony spot framed perfectly by Spanish Moss-laden oak trees, and a whimsical white cottage for the candle-lit reception dinner, where the cake and bar could be protected from the afternoon sun.

The hostess, fashion designer Rose-Marie Woulfe, loves to create florals and tablescapes and no detail was forgotten with the bouquet, boutonnière and gorgeous table setting. A bird's nest under a bell jar and favors of wildflower seeds added to the feeling of a special, delightful afternoon garden party.

As a trio of pups played on the lawn, local chanteuse Diana Rogers played her piano for Kendra to walk around the poolside aisle to join her beau, Carl, as they were married under the trees by the host Lou Schiavone ( officiant-certified! ).

After dancing under cafe lights, dining semi-al fresco and cutting the cake with its custom topper....Kendra and Carl drove the two blocks home with the Just Married banner from the cottgae doing double-duty now tied to their car!
